The ford at Upper Slaughter

The word  'Slaughter' comes from the old English word 'Slohtre', nothing to do with slaughtering anyone, it means 'Muddy Place'.  I guess that makes sense as the river runs right through the middle of the village.  Not so muddy now though this and its neighbour Lower Slaughter are amongst the most cared for villages in the Cotswolds
The ford at Upper Slaughter. OIL, 6"x8" SOLD

  1. What a georgeous place You have captured the view so well. I respond to this painting with great nostalgia and am full of admiration for your skill as an artist.
