Blue Parasols in Bourton on the Water

A hot humid day (although not this Summer!) in the ever popular Cotswold village near to where my forthcoming exhibition will be.

I made the most of the colour highlights and reflective colour in this to create something other that a straight forward representation of a pretty village.

Behind the Barn

I just love these old cars, even in this condition, maybe I should buy one and plant it somewhere in my garden. This was late in the evening.

The Mill

Today's painting is the mill at Lower Slaughter, in the Cotswolds.

The little stream runs gently through the middle of the village towards the Mill, you can just make out the paddles of the wheel below the tree on the left. The cottage must have been the home of one of the workers. Unfortunately the Mill is no longer and serves simply as a place for tourists to visit and buy an ice cream.

I will be holding an exhibition in the village hall here on the 15th August, more details to follow in the coming weeks

A Passing Shower

I'm quite pleased with this painting, with the balance of colour and the composition, but I really struggled to correct the digital image and get it as close as possible to the original. The 'passing cloud' looks a little grey and blotchy and the trees in the foreground are too dense so the colours in the shadows are lost. But I guess a compromise has to be found, a low resolution jpg is never going to carry the same information as the original.

The Blue Mat

A slightly delapidated building for sale in a village near my home, it was once the village Forge, and the family who inherited the building are selling it. It's full of charm and very French, large undulating oak floorboards everywhere, the facade is covered in an old vine and it houses a large colony of woodworm!

A sunny place to sit though

Shimmering Sunlight

This is another lake near to were I live but without the usual scattering of lillies, this one has a good supply of Carp. In the distance the sun was shining through the fir trees and casting a strong dancing light on the surface of the water

From British Camp

This view looks from The British Camp in the Malvern Hills in the UK. When I was over in the UK recently I had a very good walk with the dog all around these beautiful hills.

Evening over Temple Mill

A farm near Sibford, back in the UK, I used to walk the dog down the lane through this farm, the road continues through the farm buildings spliting it in two halves, the house and cottage on one side and the barns on the other, always good healthy farmyard smells to accompany any walk!

Pond Lillies

This is one of my favourite places to paint... a small pond near St Mathieu.  I love to get lost in the abstract shapes and colours provided by the reflections, and to allow myself to be influenced by the 'Great Man'

Filtered Sunlight

I was struck by the way these sharp flashes of sunlight were drifting across the lane and bouncing through the shadows on this breezy day. The lavender in the distance gave me the perfect excuse to mess around with the palette!
