Cool Shadows

I'm typing this while sitting in a small hotel room near Chartres, I left Petit Meyniuex a day early so as to break the journey back to England, the ferry leaves tomorrow evening from Dieppe, so I should get to have a good look around Chartres tomorrow. The dog is looking out of the window at the rain which has been pouring down for most of the day! and the light keeps going off in the hotel, but it's fun despite that...

Dancing Shadows

A  small ensemble of candlesticks in the corner of my living room...

I've stolen a few minutes to upload this new post because I'm packing and getting organised for my trip back to the UK for my annual exhibition, see details below. I have about 30 new watercolours to show and some of the small oil paintings from the Frenchsketchbook website

Sibford Sunrise

This is a view I have seen often when I lived in England, the dog and I would walk slowly from Sibford along this lane before the rush of traffic to get to work. It looks directly East so there was often a good chance that the sun was rising to meet us....

Sweet Peas and Garden Shed

A very moody image; a hot Summer's evening at the bottom of the garden.

I can't always think of an appropriate sentence about my painting, I know I should but I'm posting this at the end of a very busy day, it's 7.15pm the dog needs a walk she's been very patient with me all day, I'm cooking my supper and I'm a bit tired, I also need to address the tax form that I've been ignoring for the past few days!  I don't drink, but today wish I did!

Sunlight and Bluebells

Another Bluebell painting again from a photograph of Whichford Wood in England, they must be almost in bloom and I'm looking forward to seeing them again. I'll be camping for the duration of my stay about 5 miles from this wood so I guess the dog and I will be walking through it quite often, hope so!

The Tin Shed

This little pale blue shed sits behind my house in the smallholding that belongs to the family of Roger who sadly passed away over a year ago, he kept all kinds of small animals, mostly for the pot and a very large vegetable garden (potager) the tools he used to work it with lived here. He would sit on the bench next to the shed after the days work.

Bluebells in Whichford

Back home in England it'll soon be Bluebell time!  There is a very large wood at Whichford that usually displays a very good crop of these beautifully delicate violet blue flowers. The dog and I love to wander through it just following the path in no particular direction, sometimes the sun will break through the canopy and highlight a small part of the carpet of flowers below.

White Blossom

All around the woods and hedgerows at the moment there's a delicate white dusting of blossom on some of the shrubs, it looks kind of odd as all the other trees are not yet awake with any growth, it's almost like a hard frost has caught them.

A Splash of Daffs

I'm working on some watercolours for a forthcoming exhibition back in England, so while I was in the watercolour mood I made this. It's such a challenging medium, but when I've got over the anxiety that always presents itself when I start, I really enjoy 'letting go' and allowing the paint to flow and almost do it's own thing. I almost lost this and washed some of the paint off a couple of times, I hate to throw a painting away after all I will have invested a lot of mental energy in it.

Red Can and Blossom

Continuing the 'Blossom' theme, this old decrepid shed is in a village near me and I was stopped in my tracks not by the shed (as normally I would be) but by the strickeing redness of the watering can against the fresh new grass!
