I wonder what these unlocked, they hold such an interesting past, just these two simple pieces of metal, maybe they unlocked a shed...!   yeah I'd like to think so!

Portrait practice for me this last week, I can't remember the last time I did one and there was a time when it was all I did! So understandably this was a struggle, it's from a photo so I was able to take my time and work on it between other paintings, at one point it was about to fly across the room towards the bin, but I scraped it off and had another go. I'm fairly pleased with it now but more practice is definately needed!

The Beehive

I'm certainly chopping and changing with my subject matter these days, sometimes France, sometimes England, sometimes still life!  Doesn't really matter too much it's the act of painting I'm loving, I was able to let loose a bit with this once I'd established the building and enjoyed messing about with the thick impasto paint

The Signal Box

A great shed-like building; the signal box at Moreton in Marsh, similar to the one in Newhaven I painted in August. What I really liked about this was the very strong composition formed with the diagonal rails and the counterbalance of the box with the trees on the right. It's painted looking into the light, contre-jour (looking into the daylight) so the important elements are in shadow.

The Pond at New House Farm

While gathering reference for a new commission, I came across this little pond hiding behind some trees half way down a hill surrounded by recently cut corn fields, the water was perfectly still and calm there wasn't a sound except for a distant tractor.

A Red Onion

One of the many red onions from this years vegetable harvest, I lifted them all and placed them on a table in the sun to dry out only to move them into the garage the next day out of the rain. This one I plucked and put in the studio to dry, I was as much interested in the crinkly stalk as I was the rich colour of the onion.
