The Gamekeeper's Cottage

A small cottage near the village of Stanton in the heart of the Cotswolds in England. Slightly ramshackled and not too pretty, a working man's abode.  I loved the rich Spring like greens against the honey coloured stone in this painting and applied the paint in a thick buttery state.

Flotte Harbour

I stole a few days away on the Isle de Re on the west coast of France this past weekend. The whole island has this thing about Hollyhocks, you see them down almost every street and lane! Very pretty!

This painting is of Flotte harbour one of the prettiest villages on the island...

Inside the Old Barn

This is the old Grade 2 listed barn on Keith's farm back in England, a lovely building and when the sun is low in the late afternoon you get this beautiful light effect from the inside.

The Blue Mini

An old orchard I know and love back home, it's littered with old cars and various bits of retired machinery; cement mixer, cars, horse box etc and in the middle is a wonderfully rusty tin shed! I've painted it many times and never tire of it, this time I've focussed on the scrapped blue mini van under the old apple tree.

A Quiet Place

A little tranquility and calm in the posts at the moment...a shed today which I found in the Vale of Evesham an area well known for vegetable growing, market gardening and less well know as the place where I was born! But not in this shed!

Still Waters

Another water/pond painting, I'm always drawn to this subject no idea why, but the painting almost makes itself, must be some connection there...no reason to get 'deep' about it though!

The Cow Track

Each morning and evening the local farmer walks his five beautiful Limousin cattle to the fields and back again along this track, they pass my house (in the distance, far right) with a slow gentle swagger as though they havnn't a care in the world...I guess they havn't.

Beside the River Glane

I spent the afternoon painting at the 'Site Corot' recently, along with another artist we were celebrating the fact that Jean Baptiste Corot used to spend some of his Summer's here after visiting the Limousin looking for a suitable place to paint. Two local brothers built him a summer house to use as a studio. It's a beautifil place and somewhere I'll be painting again.

Wildflowers below Rochechouart

When I returned to France I found that my camera wouldn't work, it's a good thing really because it's made me get out there with the easel and paints more than I would. The wildflowers this year are more plentiful than usual and this painting was made looking towards my local town across a beautiful display. The lake was behind me and the dog was enjoying a splash and paddle, it was a very enjoyable evening.

Who needs a camera!

Polperro Harbour

It's been too long since I posted on this blog, my recent exhibition finished long ago and I'm back here in france, unfortunately while I was away the garden grew...and grew! or rather the weeds grew and then there was a leak in the studio roof!  So I've been busy, honest! the garden looks like a garden again, veggies growing and standing proud and the studio is looking like a studio....phew!

The image I am posting here is a PRINT from a painting I made several years ago of the gorgeous little fishing village Polperro in Cornwall in England. I stayed in one of the cottages on the far left and took serveral photographs of the panorama of the village from the end of the quay. I later painted the scene in my studio as soon as I returned, the print is 24 x 13.5 inches and is printed on 300 gsm silk art paper.
